Preparation
A good cup, made simply.
Start with a bowl, a whisk and a little warm water. The measurements below are a starting point; make each cup to suit you.
Matcha, whisked with water
- Warm your bowl, then empty it and dry it. Soften the whisk tines briefly in warm water.
- Sift 2 g of matcha into the bowl. Add 60 ml of water at 70–80°C.
- Whisk briskly in a W motion until the powder is evenly mixed and a fine foam forms. Keep the tines just clear of the base.
- Enjoy as it is, or add a little more water to taste.
A matcha latte
Prepare the matcha as above, then add 150–200 ml of your preferred milk. For an iced latte, pour the milk over ice first and finish with the whisked matcha. Sweeten to taste if you like.
Genmaicha & mugicha
Start with 2 g of powder and 60 ml of warm water. Whisk until evenly mixed, then add water or milk to taste. For a cold drink, mix the powder with a little warm water before adding milk, cold water and ice. Some settling is natural; stir before drinking.
Matcha and genmaicha contain caffeine. Mugicha is naturally caffeine-free and contains barley (gluten).
Care for your tea wares
Rinse your whisk after use and allow it to air dry completely. Avoid detergent and do not press or twist the fine bamboo tines. A whisk stand supports their shape.
Hand wash your pottery bowl and dry it thoroughly before storing. Our Fresh Snow and Blushed Garden bowls are not suitable for a dishwasher or microwave. Avoid sudden temperature changes.
Keep your tea fresh
Close the inner pouch and tin after use. Store in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight and strong aromas. Always use a clean, dry spoon and follow the best-before information on your pack.
